About Charlestown

Charlestown

The historic port of Charlestown is a picturesque and beautiful place to spend time after you have been to the Christmas market.

Situated less than a mile from the market town of St Austell on the South Coast of Cornwall is Charlestown Harbour, an unspoilt, original Grade II Listed Harbour. Used recently as a key location for the filming of Poldark, starring Aiden Turner and Eleanor Thomlinson. It has also been used for various films and TV series such as Dr Who, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, The Onedin Line, and The Three Musketeers and many more.

The harbour is the home port for a famous collection of old ships which are employed in film projects all over the world - they have brought work and life to the quays and harbour buildings and are a particular draw for visitors.

There are plenty of bars, restaurants and gift shops to be enjoyed whilst taking in the breath-taking views out over St Austell Bay. It is easy to see why the beautiful little port of Charlestown has become so popular with locals and visitors alike.
